Together for the Common Good at the 2025 Word on Fire UK Conference
We at Together for the Common Good were proud to take part in the Evangelisation & Culture: The Bible conference, hosted in February by Word on Fire UK at Excel London. The conference featured Bishop Robert Barron, N.T. Wright, Professor Tracey Rowland and a number of panel events, including one on ‘The Bible and the Common Good’ featuring Professor Matthew Petrusek with Professor Francis Davis, and our founder director, Jenny Sinclair.
This was a great opportunity for us to meet friends old and new, and to promote the common good in a largely evangelistic context. With over 2,000 delegates from across the UK and Europe, our team – Jo Stow and Ben Curran, along with Jenny Sinclair – were able to engage with lots of people over the two days. We handed out hundreds of leaflets during the event. Significant numbers joined our mailing list and bought our pamphlets and booklets.
Many approached us expressing delight at discovering our work for the first time. Many others came to find us and tell us how much they appreciate what we do – from our public talks (such as the recent lecture by Professor Luke Bretherton, Staying Human: Reimagining the Spirit of the Commons) to our Leaving Egypt podcast, to our Common Good Schools programme: many people wanted to get involved, especially in the version we are developing for primary schools.
The energy gathered even more pace after Jenny’s appearance in the panel discussion on ‘The Bible and the Common Good.’ She highlighted biblical themes that relate to the common good and how they are connected to Catholic Social Teaching in everyday terms. She described how our calling for the common good unites our sense of evangelisation with the human concerns of everyday life. Following the session, there was a rush to our stall, with many people wanting to speak to Jenny, and to buy her pamphlet The Relational Church and our bible study booklet Calling People of Goodwill: the Bible and the Common Good.
Word on Fire tell us that the video of the panel session will be available soon. So make sure to keep an eye on our social media.
